Severe Thunderstorms and Flooding Over Central US, Slushy Rain in West


Thunderstorms will span the eastern half of the US today with an area of potential severe weather over the essential US, while to the west mixed precipitation will fall over 7 states; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Widespread thunderstorms severe weather over central US, potential flooding

Thunderstorms will span from Texas northward to the Dakotas and eastward through the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys, throughout the Deep South, East to the Atlantic, extending northward to New Hampshire.

An area with the potential for severe weather will span from central and northeast Texas into eastern Oklahoma, western and northern Arkansas, southeast Kansas and southwestern Missouri.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of heavy rain and potential flash flooding on two fronts in the central US today.

The first is over Northeastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. The second is over southeastern Nebraska and north-central Kansas.

Mixed precipitation in West and Northwest

Summer may be only a month away but winter-like weather is still occurring over portions of the West and Northwest where a wintry mix will fall over 7 states today.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting mixed precipitation over central and eastern Oregon; central, northern and eastern Washington; throughout the entirety of Idaho; western, southern and central Montana; western and north-central Wyoming; the northern half of Nevada; northern, north-central and western Utah.

Red flag warnings in the West

The National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing red flag warnings amid hot, dry and windy conditions in the West over six states on Friday.

The state of Utah is one of two extremes, a wintry mix to the north and northwestern portions of the state, while red flag conditions for the southern and western portions of the state.

Other areas with potential for critical fire weather today are the eastern deserts of California, southeastern Nevada, the northern half of Arizona, the northwestern west-central borders of New Mexico, and along the western border of Colorado.
