High Wind Warnings Across US, More Snow for the West

High wind warnings in parts of West and Northeast, plus snow in the West. Avalanche warnings in the Northwest, rain for the South and Ohio Valley, while a warm-up is coming in March, plus today’s temps and weather alerts.

Here’s is an overview of weather conditions around the country based on the forecast by the National Weather Service for Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Scroll farther below to see today’s weather alerts and forecast highs.

West: Snow is forecast for parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Dry and clear conditions forecast for California. Snow is forecast over much of Nevada, and nearly all of Utah and Colorado. Avalanche and high wind warnings in the region, see below.

Southwest: Dry and clear for Arizona. Snow and a wintry mix are forecast for northern New Mexico.

Central & Upper Midwest: Rain is forecast for Southeast Texas and Eastern Oklahoma. Snow and a wintry mix forecast for northern Nebraska. Snow is forecast over portions of the Dakotas, northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan.

Ohio Valley: Dry and clear for Illinois. Rain is forecast for southern Indiana and most of Ohio. High wind warnings in the region, see below

South: Rain for Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Rain is forecast for southern Florida. Mostly dry with rain for the westernmost edges of northern Carolina and Virginia. Rain and a wintry mix are forecast for West Virginia.

East: Mixed precipitation is forecast for Pennsylvania, New York, northern New Jersey, central and western Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. High wind warnings in the region, see below.

March to bring higher-than-average temperatures to most of US

Following the polar vortex delivering much colder than average temperatures in February, most areas of the United States can expect warmer-than-average temperatures in March, according to the latest predictions by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center, which released its 30-day outlook this week.

While the warmest spots will be the West and southern latitudes across the continental US, a warm streak will also extend all along the northeast coast, stretching into the Ohio Valley and Midwest.
