A dangerous nor’easter delivering some of the heaviest snowfall the east has seen in years arrives on Wednesday, with over 2 feet possible, while bringing damaging winds that could lead to power outages.

Dangerous Nor’easter to deliver over 2 feet of snow

One of the biggest snowstorms to strike the East arrives on Wednesday, prompting winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories that extend from Maine as far south as Georgia.

The region is expected to receive the heaviest snowfall it has experienced in years. Some areas could see over two feet of snowfall, while many areas are expected to receive a foot of snow or greater. The heaviest snowfall will arrive in the evening hours.

Another concern will be high, potentially damaging winds that could bring power outages to the region.

Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolfe signed a disaster emergency proclamation in advance of the storm, NBC reported.

At a press conference on Tuesday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio urged residents to take precautions.

“This is going to be a serious storm,” de Blasio said, “and people need to take it seriously.”

Officials advised residents to stay home and avoid travel if it all possible. Black ice and slick road conditions are expected to make travel hazardous.

The snowfall expected to taper off by Thursday afternoon.
